Commonly Asked Questions

We hope the following commonly asked questions will help you. If you have any other queries simply contact us.

Who are AuctionPeople?

AuctionPeople are a UK Registered eBay Trading Assistant and PowerSeller. We are experts at selling online. We provide professional support to individuals, companies, charities and schools by selling their unwanted items or surplus stock on eBay.

Items for sale either remain at the sellers location, are delivered to our London drop-shop, or can be collected by us. For larger items we are able to visit and take photographs/measurements etc. We then take care of the entire eBay sales process, such as item description, photography, listing, enquiry handling and delivery, finally sending a cheque of the proceeds to the seller when the transaction is complete.

Why do most items start at £9.99?

A low start price attracts more bidders, which is why we recommend starting most auctions at £9.99. For high-value or unusual items you can set a higher Reserve Price/Buy It Now/Best Offer (see below). For more information check out what it costs.

What items can I sell?

As long as each individual item you wish to sell is worth at least £50 approximately, AuctionPeople will generally sell it for you, such as designer and antique furniture, kitchen features and fittings, white goods such as fridges and washing machines, bathrooms, designer and vintage clothes, shoes and accessories, mobile phones and car kits, iPods and MP3 players, digital cameras and lenses, PDAs and laptops, PCs, Apple Macs, printers and servers, designer and antique watches and jewellery, musical instruments, collectible toys, games and baby strollers, branded china and porcelain, cars and motorbikes, holiday apartments and greenhouses and much, much more!

We are happy to evaluate whatever item you wish to drop-off. If we believe the item is worth more than £50 we can usually sell it for you.

What happens if my item is damaged while in your possession?

AuctionPeople take every precaution to ensure your items are safely stored while with us. Afterall, this is in everyone's interest. However, in the unlikely event that your item should be lost, damaged or stolen we will compensate you.

For the purpose of compensation value, prior to the end of the auction the value of each item is its Start Price. After the conclusion of an auction, it will be the higher of its Start Price and the highest bona fide bid. Check out our Terms & Conditions for more information.

How long will it take to list my items?

From the point of item drop-off or collection from you location we usually require anywhere between 5 - 10 working days to list. This largely depends on the quantity, nature or value of the item(s).

Who pays for postage and packing?

All postage and packing costs are an additional charge on top of the final sale price of your item, and paid in full by the winning bidder.

What if the winning bidder doesn't pay for my item?

If the winning bidder doesn't pay for the item within seven days we reserve the option to revoke the auction and file a Non-Payer Dispute alert.

Either way, the offer to purchase would be given to the second highest bidder. The AuctionPeople fee will be calculated from the second highest bid, or the item will be re-listed without charge to you (if the second bidder declines).

When will I receive payment for the items you have sold for me?

We will send out your cheque and a statement of sales usually within 4 - 6 weeks of your item selling. This is because we only ship out items to buyers after their payment has cleared, and provide them with an opportunity within 7 days to make any possible claims. After that period, and assuming there is no dispute with the buyer, or if we have had to re-list your item for any reason, we then pay you for each item.
